Summer/Fall 2019 Transfer Application

  David Graves      January 22nd, 2019

The Summer/Fall transfer application will open today, January 22. While the application opens today, please take your time completing it. Make sure you are applying for the correct program, the correct campus, the correct term, etc. Here are a few suggestions and updates for transfer applicants.  We project we will begin reviewing transfer files in early February, and we will start releasing decisions in early March. Once we begin releasing decisions, we will do so every Friday afternoon. If a decision is made on your application, you will receive an email late afternoon on that Friday notifying you that a decision is available on your status page. Review our transfer procedures and requirements, as well as our academic consideration levels. The summer and fall deadline for both the application and the materials is March 1.  Select the term you wish to attend, not one you have heard is easier to get in (this is a myth). If you select summer, for instance, we expect you to attend for summer, and if you do not, you cannot then attend in the fall. We are fine if you send in transcripts before or after you apply. As well, we need all transcripts from colleges ever attended as an undergraduate, even if you attended a college during HS. If a transcript has a different name than the one you applied with, please make sure to let us know so we can match up documents. The “other last name” filed is the place to […]

Summer/Fall 2017 Transfer/Transient Applications are Open

  David Graves      January 25th, 2017

The Summer/Fall transfer and transient applications opened on Tuesday, January 24. While the application is now open, please take your time completing it. Again, please take your time, as it is much easier to submit a correct application than fix problems with a error filled one. Make sure you are applying for the correct program, the correct campus, the correct term, etc. Here are a few suggestions and updates for transfer applicants. While the application is open, we project we will not begin reviewing Summer transfers and transients until mid-late February, and we will not start with Fall transfers until March. Review our transfer procedures and requirements, as well as our academic consideration levels. Select the term you wish to attend, not one you have heard is easier to get in (this is a myth). If you select summer, for instance, we expect you to attend for summer, and if you do not, you cannot then attend in the fall. Please send in all the required transcripts after you apply, not before. As well, we need all transcripts from colleges ever attended, even if you attended a college during HS. When you are at the page where you enter in your previous schools, start typing in the name or city of the school, and it will auto generate schools that match. Select the correct one and the right code will then populate. If a transcript has a different name than the one you applied with, please make sure to let us […]

Spring 2017 Transfer Reviews

  David Graves      July 5th, 2016

Today, our office started reviewing Spring 2017 transfer applications. This is earlier than I expected, but we are way ahead of the timelines we have predicted for Fall transfers files and final HS transcripts for freshmen. The 8/15 application deadline for spring has not passed and we are still receiving applications and documents, so we cannot say how long it will take us to finish or guess when you will hear a decision.  If you applied for the spring term, please be sure to check your myStatus to see if we have your most up-to-date transcript(s).  If you were enrolled in coursework this summer and have not sent a transcript with your summer grades, you should have one sent as soon as possible.  To be complete and ready to review, we must have a transcript from each college/university you have previously attended.  If you are attending a new college starting in the Fall 2016 semester, we do not need a transcript, as there will not be any grades on the transcript. If you are admitted, we will need a transcript when fall term is done, though, as we will need to post these grades. Transfer decisions are made on a daily basis Monday through Friday, and it varies on how many decisions we can make in a day due to the complexity of some transfer files. The myStatus page is updated in the early a.m. every business morning, and decisions are posted on the myStatus page and are mailed to transfer applicants. We […]

Summer/Fall 2016 Transfer Consideration Level Update

  David Graves      February 11th, 2016

When the Summer/Fall Transfer application opened up a few weeks ago, the consideration level for admission for applicants with 60 or more hours was changed from a 2.80 to a 3.00 GPA. This was done in an effort to make sure we could control the size of the entering transfer class, and to make sure we had enough space on campus for all entering students. After a review of this change by both admissions and the administration, it was determined that we would not implement this new consideration level  for Summer and Fall of 2016, and so we will revert back to a 2.80 for applicants with 60 or more transferable hours for these two terms. There is a good chance that we will shift the consideration levels for future terms beyond Fall 2016, but I cannot estimate that situation at this time.

Summer/Fall 2016 Transfer Application

  David Graves      January 27th, 2016

The Summer/Fall transfer application will open on Thursday, January 28. While the application will open tomorrow, please take your time completing it. Make sure you are applying for the correct program, the correct campus, the correct term, etc. Here are a few suggestions and updates for transfer applicants. While the application opens up tomorrow, we project we will not begin reviewing Summer transfers until mid-February, and we will not start with Fall transfers until early March. Review our transfer procedures and requirements, as well as our academic consideration levels. Select the term you wish to attend, not one you have heard is easier to get in (this is a myth). If a transcript has a different name than the one you applied with, please make sure to let us know so we can match up documents, If you started a freshman application earlier to set up an account, you will need to select the Settings option on your admissions dashboard to change your application type. It is much better to get everything correct before applying rather than try to fix things after you submit an application, so triple check everything. Once you apply, be patient. […]

Updated Spring 2016 Transfer Information

  David Graves      August 7th, 2015

At this time of year, the review of the 2016 Spring transfer applications is our main focus, and we continue to diligently work on these files. At this time, we have made roughly 600 decisions of the 1,200 applications we received this year. Based on statistical data, we are averaging about 30-40 decisions being made per day when we are able to focus full-time on Spring files. The one exception to this timing is during the dates between August 3rd and August 14th, when our evaluation team works full force to review summer work for both incoming and current students. This step must be done ASAP to allow for prerequisite checks for fall courses for these students. As such, I expect that we will be able to focus on Spring applications full time on roughly August 17, and so we hope for the most part to be finished with reviews by about early to mid September, (with exceptions as we get into some of the more challenging files to review). Please remember we cannot tell you when you will have a decision as this depends on many factors. Applications are generally processed in the order in which the file was completed, but this is not always the case, as some files are more challenging, are from colleges where we are having to build a catalog in the new system, or are just complex. We also have two new staff members who can handle the more basic transfer files, so they […]

Spring 2016 Decisions

  David Graves      June 11th, 2015

Updated Fall 2015 Transfer Information

  David Graves      April 20th, 2015

The review of the 2015 Fall transfer applications is our key focus at this time, and we continue to diligently work on these files.  At this time, we have made roughly 1,500 decisions of the 2700 applications we received this year. In addition, roughly 350-400 of the 2,700 files are incomplete and thus will not be reviewed. Based on statistical data, we are averaging about 50 decisions being made per day. As such, I expect that we be be complete for the most part by about mid-May, although,we will have a few slowdowns as we get into some of the more challenging files to review. Please remember we cannot tell you when you will have a decision as this depends on many factors. Applications are generally processed in the order in which the file was completed, but this is not always the case, as some files are more challenging, are from colleges where we are having to build a catalog in the new system, or are just complex. We also have two new staff members who can handle the more basic transfer files, so they might review some later files that can be done easily but might be out of “completion order”. As well, I am not able to look at each individual file to see why someone did nor did not receive a decision based on X date. Most applications completed by roughly the 20th of February or earlier have been reviewed with some exceptions.  If you are transferring […]

2015 Fall Transfer Update

  David Graves      March 31st, 2015

We are continuing to focus as much time as possible to review the 2015 Fall transfer applications.  At this time, we have made roughly 750 decisions of the 2550 applications we received so far this year (I project about 2,700 applicants total after the 4/1 deadline).  Based on last weeks numbers, we are averaging about 60-70 decisions being made per day. As such, I expect for a large volume of decisions to go out in the next four weeks. At some point in time, though, this will slow down a little bit due when we get deeper into the tougher transfer applications. Most applications completed by the start of February or earlier have been reviewed with some exceptions.  If you are transferring from an out-of-state college […]

Fall 2014 Transfer Update

  David Graves      May 19th, 2014

At this time, we have made decisions on roughly 80% of the Fall transfer applications that are complete and ready for review. This leaves us with about 400 or so files to still review for admissions, along with the checking of incomplete files for any missing documents/unusual circumstances. Starting today, we will be taking a slightly different approach to the remaining transfer applications that are fairly complex and time consuming, generally with multiple college transcripts and/or from colleges that we do not see very often. Usually, if we admit a student, the next step would be to enter their work into our articulation form in our student system, and we would then post the equivalent coursework into the system as well. As you can guess, this is the complex and time consuming part of the process. For these remaining applications, we will postpone this time consuming step, and make a decision without posting the credit. The student will generally be able to see what transfers into UGA and how it transfers through our transfer equivalency system, and this will mean that we will be able to make a vast majority of these decisions over the next few days. While we will still have a few applications where we are not able to make a decision yet, due to either an academic office at UGA wanting to review the file as well or some oddity with the file, we should be able get through almost all files within 2-3 days this […]
