Summer/Fall 2017 Transfer/Transient Applications are Open

  David Graves      January 25th, 2017

The Summer/Fall transfer and transient applications opened on Tuesday, January 24. While the application is now open, please take your time completing it. Again, please take your time, as it is much easier to submit a correct application than fix problems with a error filled one. Make sure you are applying for the correct program, the correct campus, the correct term, etc. Here are a few suggestions and updates for transfer applicants. While the application is open, we project we will not begin reviewing Summer transfers and transients until mid-late February, and we will not start with Fall transfers until March. Review our transfer procedures and requirements, as well as our academic consideration levels. Select the term you wish to attend, not one you have heard is easier to get in (this is a myth). If you select summer, for instance, we expect you to attend for summer, and if you do not, you cannot then attend in the fall. Please send in all the required transcripts after you apply, not before. As well, we need all transcripts from colleges ever attended, even if you attended a college during HS. When you are at the page where you enter in your previous schools, start typing in the name or city of the school, and it will auto generate schools that match. Select the correct one and the right code will then populate. If a transcript has a different name than the one you applied with, please make sure to let us […]

UGA Orientation

  David Graves      June 1st, 2016

Summer is upon us, and that means one thing (at least in admissions that is): Orientation! If you are a new student to UGA, you are required to attend an Orientation session (and you get to meet the Orientation Leaders in the photo!). In order to have a successful time at Orientation, you need to make sure to take certain steps to be ready for this event.  Review the Orientation To-Do list for First-Year and Transfer students. Prior to attending Orientation, make sure you have taken care of several items that are required before you can register for classes at Orientation. Make sure you have cleared your Verification of Lawful Presence requirement (see your myStatus for how to submit documents for this), send in your Health Center Immunization forms well before your session, and complete the Emergency Contact information in Athena.  If you have any transfer work that needs to be reviewed and posted to your account (dual enrollment work for freshman, Spring work for Summer/Fall transfers), get the transcripts into UGA ASAP. Getting this transcript in will mean that you can register for courses that might need this work posted as prerequisite credit. In addition, make sure to send in any AP or IB scores to UGA to make sure the Registrar can post the credit. Review the Pre-Orientation Placement Testing information to see if you need to take any placement exams, and if possible, do these prior to Orientation. Many students will be able to exempt one or […]

Fall 2016 Transfer Reviews

  David Graves      March 7th, 2016

On Tuesday, March 8, our office will start reviewing Fall transfer applications.  We are finishing up the last of the summer applications now, so that will allow us to start with Fall transfers. The deadline for Fall has not passed yet, and we are still receiving applications and documents, so we cannot say how long it will take us to finish or guess when you will hear a decision. Make sure to check your myStatus to see if we have your most up-to-date transcript(s), as we cannot make a decision without the most up-to-date work.  If you were enrolled in coursework last fall and have not sent a transcript with your fall grades, you should have one sent as soon as possible.  To be complete and ready to review, we must have a transcript from each college/university you have previously attended (we try to review files based on the date of a file being completed).  If we see that you were enrolled in courses last fall and we do not have a transcript with those grades, you are not complete and this will delay a review of your application. The good news is that our evaluation team will be able to put all their attention towards transfer reviews now, so I expect a jump in the number of files reviewed per day. Transfer decisions are made on a daily basis Monday through Friday, and it varies on how many decisions we can make in a day due to the complexity of some […]

2016 EA Deadline is Approaching

  David Graves      October 8th, 2015

The Early Action deadline is almost here, and the two weeks surrounding the deadline are similar to Atlanta during 5:00 p.m. rush hour traffic (on a Friday).  Our office typically receives 4,000+ applications within the last few days, has a drastic increase in mail, and deals with a great deal of emails and phone calls in the few days both before and after the deadline.  The best thing an applicant can do is be patient and make sure you have requested your test scores, transcript and school evaluation.  We will be working as quickly as possible to match documents with files, but we are dealing with a large number of applications and supplemental material, so things do not happen immediately. Remember, the supporting document submission deadline is October 22, so you do not need to panic if it is October 16 and your file is not complete. The fastest way to get material to us is to send it electronically.  Schools can submit transcripts online through Docufide/Parchment, through GaCollege411, or through our High School Counselor Portal transcript upload process.  The high school evaluation can be submitted online from the High School Counselor Portal or by Naviance/Parchment, and we are fine if the school submits the Secondary School Report (SSR) in place of our form. If an SSR is sent, please give us time to log it into the system, as it takes a little longer than a transcript to input. Remember, no faxes! For SAT/ACT test scores, we will accept […]

2015 Transfer Update

  David Graves      February 16th, 2015

Today (February 16), our office started reviewing Summer transfer applications.  The deadline for summer has not passed and we are still receiving applications and documents, so we cannot say how long it will take us to finish or guess when you will hear a decision.  If you applied early for summer or fall, please be sure to check your myStatus to see if we have your most up-to-date transcript(s).  If you were enrolled in coursework last fall and have not sent a transcript with your fall grades, you should have one sent as soon as possible.  To be complete and ready to review, we must have a transcript from each college/university you have previously attended.  If we see that you were enrolled in courses last fall and we do not have a transcript with those grades, you are not complete and this will delay a review of your application. Once we complete the Summer transfer reviews, we will then begin to review Fall transfer applicants. Just like the summer files, we do not know how many will apply, how long each review will take, when you will hear, etc. The best this is to just be patient as we review the files. As well, Fall transfer applicants need to make sure we have the most up-to-date transcripts, and that we have individual transcripts from each college attended, even if it was dual enrollment work in high school. Transfer decisions are made on a daily basis Monday through Friday, and it varies on […]

Spring 2015 Transfer Decisions

  David Graves      August 6th, 2014

This week, our office started reviewing Spring 2015 transfer applications.  The deadline for spring has not passed and we are still receiving applications and documents, so we cannot say how long it will take us to finish or guess when you will hear a decision.  If you applied for the spring term, please be sure to check your myStatus to see if we have your most up-to-date transcript(s).  If you were enrolled in coursework this summer and have not sent a transcript with your summer grades, you should have one sent as soon as possible.  To be complete and ready to review, we must have a transcript from each college/university you have previously attended.  If you are attending a new college starting in the fall 2014 semester, we do not need a transcript, as there will not be any grades on the transcript. If you are admitted, we will need a transcript when fall term is done, though, as we will need to post these grades. Transfer decisions are made on a daily basis Monday through Friday, and it varies on how many decisions we can make in a day due to the complexity of some transfer files. The myStatus page is updated in the early a.m. every business morning, and decisions are posted on the myStatus page and are mailed to transfer applicants. We generally try to review files based on when a file is complete (earliest to latest), but this is not an exact science due to a shift to our […]

2014 Transfer Updates

  David Graves      February 10th, 2014

Late last week, our office started reviewing Summer transfer applications. The Fall transfer application will open up on Monday, February 17, as we have two systems running this year, and we need to keep the Summer applications (on the old system) separate from the Fall applications (new system). The deadline for Fall transfer admissions is April 1, and this is both an application and document deadline. We suggest you not wait until the deadline to apply, as this can only delay a decision and cause slowness in matching up documents due to the volume of items coming in around deadlines. Due to the new system, the start of Fall transfer reviews might be […]

Updates and Reminders for Transfer and First Year Students

  David Graves      June 6th, 2013

The majority of Fall transfer decisions have been made.  We should be able to complete the handful of remaining decisions by mid-June.  If you have been admitted for Fall and completed coursework this past Spring, please be sure to send us an updated transcript so we can post your credit.  Spring transcripts should be processed before your scheduled Orientation date as long as you get your transcript to us in time.  We encourage students to bring an updated transcript or grade report to Orientation to ensure access to your coursework during the advising appointment. All admitted students should check the myStatus to make sure you have cleared your Verification of Lawful Presence registration flag.  If you do not clear your VLP flag prior to attending Orientation, you will not be able to register for classes after meeting with your advisor.  You can find a list of ways to clear this flag on your status check.  Please note it can take up to a week to clear you once we have received your information. Admitted First Year students, please do not forget to submit your final high school transcript!  If you completed college coursework through dual enrollment then we will need an official college transcript as well.  Don’t forget to register for Orientation if you have not done so. You can also visit the Orientation website for a To-Do list of everything that should be completed before your session. Go Dawgs!

Updates on the Transfer Review Process for Fall and Summer

  David Graves      March 19th, 2013

We have started reviewing Fall transfer applications.  With the exception of a few oddities, we are finished with almost all Summer transfers.  The myStatus is currently down and will not be accessible until First Year decisions are released.  Letters are continuing to be mailed as decisions are made. Unfortunately we cannot tell you when you will have a transfer decision as this depends on many factors.  In general, applications are processed in the order in which they are completed.  To have a complete application we must have a transcript from every college you have previously attended.  This includes dual enrollment coursework you may have completed while enrolled in high school.   If you applied last fall, please be sure you have sent your most up-to-date transcript.  Your myStatus will have a date next to your transcript(s) to show when it was received.  If you were enrolled in coursework last fall and we have not received an updated transcript with fall grades, we will not be able to process your application. We will post additional updates as we are able to. Go Dawgs!

January Update

  David Graves      January 24th, 2013

From January 1 through January 22 we have received approximately 4,100 documents from Parchment/Docufide, 2,400 transcripts from GAcollege411 and 8,000 teacher recommendations and high school evaluations from our online forms.  That’s 14,500 documents in 22 days!   This does not include documents that were mailed in, emailed to admproc@uga.edu or emailed to individual counselors.   We are working vigorously to match documents with files and as you can imagine we are quite busy.  Documents are being matched as quickly as possible, but this takes time given the large number we have received recently. Please be patient with us.  Remember, it takes about 8 to 10 business days for us to match a document to your file once we have received it.  If you still have not submitted material from the high school, you should do so as soon as possible!  We will continue to accept material from the school at least through the end of January. Because we have received a large number of First Year transcripts given the application deadline, we will begin reviewing summer transfer applications a little later this year.  We will likely begin to review summer transfer students in mid February.  Once we have finished reviewing all summer transfer applicants, we will begin to review fall transfers.  Applications are reviewed in the order in which they are completed, not the order received.  For a transfer application to be complete we must receive your application, application fee, and a transcript from each college/university you have attended (including […]
