In the Spring of 2016, the College Board released their newly redesigned SAT test, and the Essay portion will be optional. For information regarding the redesigned SAT, its changes and how it may impact you, please visit the College Board website.
First-Year Applicants for Fall 2017 and Beyond
Given UGA’s First-Year application deadlines, this change will impact students applying for the Fall semester of 2017 and beyond. For these students, UGA will continue to accept both the SAT and the ACT. With the change in the newly designed SAT, we will not require the Optional Essay component for either the SAT or the ACT.
UGA will continue to superscore the SAT and the ACT within the respective test type (SAT I, SAT R, or ACT). In our review of SAT and ACT scores, we will continue to look at all scores, but we will focus on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and Math sections on the new SAT R, the Critical Reading and Math sections of the SAT I, and the English and Math sections on the ACT.
