Spring 2018 Transfer Update

  David Graves      June 15th, 2017

Today, our office started reviewing Spring 2018 transfer applications. This is earlier than I expected, but we are way ahead of the timelines we have predicted for Summer/Fall transfers updates and final HS transcript reviews for freshmen. The 8/15 application deadline for spring has not passed and we are still receiving applications and documents, so we cannot say how long it will take us to finish or guess when you will hear a decision.  If you applied for the spring term, please be sure to check your Status page to see if we have your most up-to-date transcript(s). If you were enrolled in coursework this summer and have not sent a transcript with your summer grades, you should have one sent as soon as possible.  To be complete and ready to review, we must have a transcript from each college/university you have previously attended.  If you are attending a new college starting in the Fall 2017 semester, we do not need a transcript, as there will not be any grades on the transcript. If you are admitted, we will need a transcript when fall term is done, though, as we will need to post these grades. Just like Summer and Fall transfer decisions, we will release our decisions every Friday in the late afternoon, and emails will go out to students roughly 15 minutes after a decision is released indicating a change to a student’s status (no decision information is in the email, as it directs applicants to the status page for […]

Summer/Fall 2016 Transfer Consideration Level Update

  David Graves      February 11th, 2016

When the Summer/Fall Transfer application opened up a few weeks ago, the consideration level for admission for applicants with 60 or more hours was changed from a 2.80 to a 3.00 GPA. This was done in an effort to make sure we could control the size of the entering transfer class, and to make sure we had enough space on campus for all entering students. After a review of this change by both admissions and the administration, it was determined that we would not implement this new consideration level  for Summer and Fall of 2016, and so we will revert back to a 2.80 for applicants with 60 or more transferable hours for these two terms. There is a good chance that we will shift the consideration levels for future terms beyond Fall 2016, but I cannot estimate that situation at this time.

2016 Transfer Admission Update

  David Graves      February 10th, 2016

On Monday, February 8, our office started reviewing Summer transfer applications.  The deadline for summer has not passed and we are still receiving applications and documents, so we cannot say how long it will take us to finish or guess when you will hear a decision.  If you applied early for summer or fall, please be sure to check your myStatus to see if we have your most up-to-date transcript(s).  If you were enrolled in coursework last fall and have not sent a transcript with your fall grades, you should have one sent as soon as possible.  To be complete and ready to review, we must have a transcript from each college/university you have previously attended.  If we see that you were enrolled in courses last fall and we do not have a transcript with those grades, you are not complete and this will delay a review of your application. Once we complete the Summer transfer reviews, we will then begin to review Fall transfer applicants. Just like the summer files, we do not know how many will apply, how long each review will take, when you will hear, etc. The best this is to just be patient as we review the files. As well, Fall transfer applicants need to make sure we have the most up-to-date transcripts, and that we have individual transcripts from each college attended, even if it was dual enrollment work in high school. Transfer decisions are made on a daily basis Monday through Friday, and it varies […]

Spring 2015 Transfer Decisions

  David Graves      August 6th, 2014

This week, our office started reviewing Spring 2015 transfer applications.  The deadline for spring has not passed and we are still receiving applications and documents, so we cannot say how long it will take us to finish or guess when you will hear a decision.  If you applied for the spring term, please be sure to check your myStatus to see if we have your most up-to-date transcript(s).  If you were enrolled in coursework this summer and have not sent a transcript with your summer grades, you should have one sent as soon as possible.  To be complete and ready to review, we must have a transcript from each college/university you have previously attended.  If you are attending a new college starting in the fall 2014 semester, we do not need a transcript, as there will not be any grades on the transcript. If you are admitted, we will need a transcript when fall term is done, though, as we will need to post these grades. Transfer decisions are made on a daily basis Monday through Friday, and it varies on how many decisions we can make in a day due to the complexity of some transfer files. The myStatus page is updated in the early a.m. every business morning, and decisions are posted on the myStatus page and are mailed to transfer applicants. We generally try to review files based on when a file is complete (earliest to latest), but this is not an exact science due to a shift to our […]

April 2012 Updates for Freshman and Transfers

  David Graves      April 19th, 2012

It is mid-April, and life is still fairly hectic in our office. Freshman decisions are out, but we are still in the thick of reviewing transfer files, monitoring commitment deposits for the freshman class, traveling, hosting accepted student events on campus and around the US, mailing out tons of materials, etc. But we also know that this is a hectic time for you as well, so here is a quick update on what is going on at UGA. Admitted Freshman: We suggest you do not wait until the last moment to decide where you will be attending college. We are fine if you wait until May 1 to submit your commitment deposit, but we do not want you to get it in late and suddenly have problems attending your intended college. Make a good decision, and make a well thought out decision, but don’t put it off just to delay making a decision. In addition, make sure not to catch “senioritis”, as if it is too severe, it could be fatal to your enrollment at UGA! In addition, all of our merit based scholarships (except for the Goizueta scholarships that had a separate application) have been awarded. Approximately 9-10% of the class was offered a merit based scholarship (with out of state at times having a partial or full waiver of the OOS fees), so it was a very competitive process. Scholarship offers are displayed on a student’s myStatus page if one is offered, and the section only appears if […]

Spring 2012 Transfer Update

  David Graves      August 31st, 2011

The deadline for Spring is one day away (Spetember 1), so I thought all of the transfer applicants would like an update on the progress of our review. Please remember, we are evaluating transfer files daily, but it takes a while to review each transfer file, so please be patient with us as we go through this process. As of today, we have 1300 Spring transfer applications, and we expect a few hundred more to come in over the next few days. Currently, we have made decisions on just under 500 of these files, and we are averaging about 30-40 decisions a day. Of the remaining 800 files still to review (and this will grow over the next few days as the deadline hits), we have transcripts from about 500 of the applicants. Generally, we will evaluate files based upon who completed their file earliest, so someone who submitted all of their materials (application, application fee, transcripts) on August 12 will generally hear a decision before someone who completed their file on August 13, who will hear before an August 14 completion, etc. There are some exceptions, but this is the general course that our office takes. Please do not ask when you will hear a decision, as I cannot guess as to a date. As well, monitor your myStatus page to make sure everything is in, and if a transcript is under a different last name (if was under a maiden name, you changed your name after adoption, etc.), […]

Big Dawg Welcome 2011

  David Graves      July 26th, 2011

Every year, the University of Georgia has a huge series of events during the first week back on campus. This year, there will be a huge freshman gathering at Sanford Stadium, an outdoor movie at Legion Field, live performances at the Tate theater, and a special Dawgs after Dark on Friday, August 19. I hope that the first week at UGA goes well for all incoming freshmen and transfer students, and I wish you the best for your first semester (and year!). Go to the UGA Campus Life site for more information! Go Dawgs!
