There is something for everyone in the Classic City of Athens, Georgia. Whether you are a fan of the distinctively local restaurants, the nationally-known music scene, our very own Georgia Bulldawgs, or the city’s many historic treasures, Athens is the classic college town with plenty to keep you busy.

Some not-to-be-missed events that enhance and highlight the creative culture of Athens include annual activities such as AthFest which offers a week-long music, art and film festival; a two day cycling event set in downtown known as the Twilight Criterium; the downtown Parade of Lights; and, the North Georgia Folk Festival in nearby Sandy Creek Park.

UGA’s North Campus is just a few steps away from downtown Athens giving students easy access to Athens’ thriving culture. More than 65 specialty shops, 55 restaurants and cafes, and 40 taverns and music venues line the streets of downtown. Over the years, Athens has become a cultural hotspot, and a mecca for music and the arts.
