FAQ for Denied Transfer Applicants

The Office of Admissions at UGA recognizes that many applicants will be discouraged to learn that they have not been offered Transfer admission to UGA. We have designed the list below to answer some of the questions that you may have about the admissions process at UGA.

I meet the minimum consideration criteria for transfer eligibility consideration. Why wasn’t I admitted?

Transfer admission decisions are made on a space-as-available basis. Therefore, neither GPA nor completed credit hour levels guarantee admission. For students closer to the minimum consideration criteria, we conduct a secondary review that also considers your purpose statement, to help us better understand your academic plans and grade trends. We also review your college coursework to see how it aligns with your intended major.

Can I change my purpose statement or submit additional documents to be reconsidered for admission?

No. Your file has already been evaluated and reviewed based on the application materials submitted by our application materials deadline.

I want to reapply as a transfer applicant for a future term. How can I make my transfer application stronger?

The most important factor for transfer consideration will be how well you’ve prepared yourself for your intended major at UGA. To strengthen your application, take courses related to your major and aim to get the best grades you can, especially in those major-related courses. To see what courses fit with your interests, visit the UGA Bulletin.
