First-Year Class Profile
Statistics can't tell you everything about the students at the University of Georgia, but they can at least give you some insight into the people you will be sitting next to in your first English class, belaying the rope as you scale the Ramsey Center climbing wall or just having a conversation over coffee at the Tate Student Center.
The 5,750 first-year students enrolling at UGA in August 2018 represent the most academically prepared entering class in UGA history. Some numbers have been rounded for clarity or consistency. While the following information about the Class of 2022 describes some of their more important statistics, we are also aware of the great diversity of interests, backgrounds, abilities and talents that we have not measured or that cannot be described succinctly.

The enrolling Class of 2022 has outstanding academic credentials:
99% took at least one course at an advanced level such as AP, IB, or Dual Enrollment.
Earned an average of over 20 semester hours of college credit through AP, IB or Dual Enrollment
More than 97% were in their school's "advanced" or "most difficult" curriculum.
More than 3800 have a core high school GPA of 4.00 or higher.
More than 285 graduated first or second in their class.

Valedictorians and Salutatorians
The top two graduates from every SACS-accredited Georgia high school are guaranteed admission to UGA, provided certain criteria are met. Approximately 5% of the entering first-year students were valedictorians or salutatorians.
