Students and parents will hear from representatives from the Bursar's Office, food services, the health center, and the academic area to which the student was admitted. There will also be a brief information session for parents. No advance reservation is required for parents. Parents are encouraged to eat lunch with the students in Snelling Dining Commons.

Parents should also review the student’s Orientation “To Do” list.

And to make sure your student is ready to enroll at UGA, review the tasks on the “To Do” list for all admitted students.

Orientation for Parents – Fall Semester

First-Year

Parents are invited and strongly encouraged to attend the same Orientation session as their student. Parents of new Fall semester First-Year students will receive in the mail a postcard invitation to Orientation after their student’s session has been confirmed. There is not a separate charge for parents and other family members attending Orientation; the Orientation fee paid by the student is a “family cost” and allows family members to attend Orientation with the student. Costs to parents will be what they choose to pay separately for meals, lodging, and transportation to campus. Parents do not need to send money or make reservations for Orientation.

Fall Semester Orientation for parents is a two-day program with sessions that run concurrent with the student program. The program for each session includes information sessions on campus housing, food service, costs, the health center, campus safety and academic programs. A campus tour and question and answer sessions with trained student Orientation Leaders are also included. The Orientation program will end on the second day with advising and registration for the students. Do not make plans to leave campus prior to 6:00 p.m. that day.

Lodging: For parents who would like to experience on-campus living, we welcome you to stay in Brumby Residence Hall during Orientation. There is a charge of $28 per person for double occupancy or $38.50 for single occupancy nightly. Accommodations include two bed sheets, one pillow with pillowcase, one blanket and two bath towels. Remember to bring your toiletries and a small alarm clock. Please do not send money in advance. You will be able to secure and pay for a residence hall room the day you arrive for Orientation. Family members who prefer not to stay in the residence hall may choose to make reservations in any of the numerous hotels serving the University community. The Athens Convention and Visitors Bureau Web site lists area hotels and bed and breakfast inns. Do not make reservations or travel plans until your student’s session assignment has been confirmed.

Please click here for directions to Brumby Residence Hall.

Meals: Parents are encouraged to eat lunch in the dining hall on both days of Orientation. A $18 meal ticket will be available for purchase at check in at Brumby Residence Hall on the first morning of Orientation. The meal ticket provides lunch on both days of Orientation. Dinner is NOT included in the price of the meal ticket. Most parents choose to eat dinner at one of the many restaurants in Athens. The students will be having dinner together at Orientation.

For the dates of the fifteen First-Year Orientation sessions, refer to the First-Year Orientation page.

Parents should also review the student’s Orientation “To Do” list.
