Scholarships At UGA

Investing in Your Future

With outstanding new facilities, a rapidly rising academic profile, and an increasingly diverse learning community, UGA has soared into the ranks of the nation’s most elite public universities. UGA is even ranked #10 on Princeton Review’s list of the “25 Most Connected Campuses,” second-highest among public universities nationwide. Yet a UGA education continues to be one of the most affordable in the country. That’s why respected sources such as MoneyMagazine, Kiplinger’s, and U.S. News & World Report agree that the University of Georgia is one of the best educational investments you can make.

Need-Based Financial Aid
The first step in applying for need-based financial aid is completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This form is available at high schools, colleges and libraries in December of your senior year, or at FAFSA. If you would like to be considered for need-based financial aid, you must complete the FAFSA form. Grants, loans and work-study employment will be awarded based on need. The priority deadline for filing the FAFSA is March 1. We suggest you submit your FAFSA forms as soon after the first of the year as possible to be eligible for consideration for all available need-based aid programs. Approximately 34% of UGA students were awarded need-based aid during the previous year.

Financial aid eligibility is determined by calculating the difference between the amount your family is expected to contribute to your college education and the cost of attending the University of Georgia. The Expected Family Contribution (EFC) is an evaluation of the parents’ and students’ income and assets, with adjustments made for the number of family members and the number of students in college. We invite you to find out more about Financial Aid at UGA.

The Georgia HOPE Scholarship
The HOPE Scholarship covers tuition, required fees and a $300 annual book allowance for Georgia residents graduating from a Georgia High School with a GPA of 3.0 or higher in their core college-prep curriculum. Students who expect to enroll at the University of Georgia should complete the Electronic HOPE application (eHOPE). This is the only time this form must be completed; in subsequent years the HOPE scholarship will be automatically renewed as long as you maintain a 3.0 GPA on all attempted college course hours. The HOPE Web site provides general information about the program, as well as the requirements for maintaining the Scholarship.

Goizueta Foundation Scholarships
In conjunction with UGA’s Office of Student Financial Aid, the Office of Admissions also awards three Goizueta Foundation Scholarships annually to students who are fluent in Spanish and who are in need of financial assistance. Recipients receive $3,000 per year toward their cost of attendance. Eligible students must demonstrate fluency in both written and spoken Spanish, have family who currently reside in the United States, and demonstrate financial need as determined by the UGA Office of Student Financial Aid. Applications will be made available January 1. The postmark deadline is March 15th. For more information, please contact Cindy Boyles, Admissions Counselor and Assistant to Scholarships, at cboyles@uga.edu or (706) 542-2112.

The Academic Common Market: Financial Assistance for Students from Specific States in Special Majors
Residents of 15 states in the Southeast have the opportunity to pursue certain unique majors at UGA while paying in-state tuition if those majors are not offered in their home state. At the present time, UGA students are pursuing majors in music therapy, genetics, landscape architecture and dance education through the Academic Common Market. Please refer to the Southern Regional Education Board for a detailed and up-to-date listing of majors available through this cooperative agreement.

Many academic departments also administer their own scholarship programs, so we suggest you directly contact the department of your major for more information.
