Use this information to guide you through your adventure of becoming a UGA student. Be sure to print the "To Do" list in order to stay on track. The steps differ for new first-year students (freshmen) versus new undergraduate transfer students so be sure you selected the correct category before continuing. Be aware that many steps have important dates and deadlines. So get started... your UGA adventure awaits you!

Immediately upon admission, all new first-year students (freshmen) must complete these steps:
-
Submit the UGA Housing application online as soon as possible.
Even if you are not sure you will ultimately enroll at UGA, you can apply for Housing even before submitting the commitment deposit. Applying for Housing does not obligate you to enroll. All new first-years, with limited exceptions, must live on campus in their first year at UGA.
-
Apply for Federal Financial Aid and/or the HOPE Scholarship after January 1.
All undergraduate students must complete the entire financial aid application process after January 1 in order to receive consideration for federal (including Loans) and/or state aid (including HOPE) for the upcoming academic year. Ultimately even if you are still not sure you will enroll at UGA, you should complete the financial aid application process so we can determine your financial aid eligibility.
-
Check your financial aid status.
Application Status is a feature available through OASIS that permits students to access their Award, as well as check their Award Status throughout the Financial Aid application process.
Students can use their Student ID and PIN to access Application Status in Classic or web based OASIS. Some of the information the system provides includes information concerning Items Needed, Items Received, Items Considered in the Determination of Aid, Award Status, Summer Enrollment Plan, and Award.
-
Pay the non-refundable $200 commitment deposit by May 1.
Pay the non-refundable $200 commitment deposit by May 1. Submitting this non-refundable deposit expresses your commitment to enroll at UGA. The commitment deposit form is in the envelope with your acceptance letter or can be found here. This deposit will be credited to your student account when your tuition and fees, housing, meal plan, etc are charged for the fall term. Failure to submit the commitment deposit by the postmark deadline will result in a cancellation of the offer of admission.
Still undecided? Attend a "New Dawg Information Session".
Once your $200 commitment deposit is paid (deadline is May 1), you should then begin these steps:
-
Create your UGA MyID and email account online.
All students must have a UGA MyID prior to registering for classes. This will provide you with an email account and Web space and give you access to online course tools. Many UGA Departments will begin communicating with you via your UGA e-mail account once you have created the MyID. Check this e-mail account regularly to stay informed about important UGA happenings and deadlines.
-
Register for summer Orientation when e-mailed to do so by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions (typically in early May for students admitted for Summer and Fall semesters, and in early November for students admitted for Spring semester).
At your Orientation session (there will be multiple session dates to choose from) you will take placement tests, meet with an academic advisor, and register for classes as well as obtain your student ID card. Click here to find out about the online Orientation registration process.
-
Submit the Mandatory Certificate of Immunization to the University Health Center at least two weeks prior to attending your assigned summer Orientation session.
You will not be eligible to register for classes until the Mandatory Certificate of Immunization form, which requires your health care provider's signature, has been submitted to and verified by the University Health Center. More information, including the address and fax number for the Patient Registration and Health Information office, is available on the UGA Health Center web page.
-
Complete the required online alcohol course prior to first day of classes at UGA.
-
Check your online Student Account for billing information beginning this spring.
Your Student Account is a centralized billing and payment system that includes charges, such as, tuition and fees, lab/course fees, residence hall rent, food service, parking permits, parking fines and other campus charges. A student must have a MyID first to check their student account. Billing information and other student account correspondence will be emailed to your UGA account on record with the University. Bills are not mailed. Anytime a charge or payment activity posts to your student account, you will be emailed a notice to access your student account and review your student account for recent activity. Also, students can grant a third party (parental or other guardian, for example) access to their on-line account.
In addition, you will receive email notices concerning impending due dates, late fee deadlines and schedule cancellation dates. Electronic banking information can be set up in the on-line Student Account to allow the choice of electronic bank debit as an on-line payment method and to elect to have financial aid refunds direct deposited. It is YOUR responsibility to check your UGA email regularly in order to receive timely billing notifications.
-
If you are planning to have a car on campus, register online for a UGA parking permit as early as mid-April and before mid-July.
-
If needed, contact the Disability Resource Center prior to your summer Orientation session.
-
Prior to your first academic advising appointment at summer Orientation, familiarize yourself with UGA's degree programs, academic requirements, and course offerings in the online Undergraduate Bulletin.
If you are undecided about a major, review the UGA Bulletin to explore majors available at UGA and your interests and strengths. If you have declared an intended major, read more information about academic advising in your school/college.
-
Submit a final high school transcript to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions by July 1.
Request your high school counselor to mail your final high school transcript to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions after your high school graduation and prior to July 1.
-
After May 1st, purchase a 7-day or 5-day meal plan for access to the award-winning UGA Food Services program.
-
Create a Bulldog Bucks account during or after your summer Orientation session in order to use your student ID card as a debit card.
-
Review and become familiar with the Student Code of Conduct.
All newly admitted first-year students (freshmen) should consider these opportunities:
-
Consider beginning your UGA enrollment this summer through the Freshman College Summer Experience.
-
Explore the possibility of enhancing your academic and residence hall experiences by participating in the Creswell Hall Learning Communities, the Franklin Residential College in Rutherford Hall, Language Communities in French and Spanish in Mary Lyndon Hall, or Honors Magnet Hall in Myers Hall.
-

You will also find statistical information about crime on campus, as well as general safety information.
