Why did you choose UGA?
I chose the University of Georgia because of the wealth of opportunities that this institution has. I was impressed with the amazing accomplishment of professors and students alike. I also wanted to attend an institution that provided academic rigor while providing a diverse environment that allowed me to network and challenge my beliefs system.
My favorite things to do on campus are..
Playing basketball at the Ramsey Center, hanging out at the Tate Center, and socializing with my residents in the Myers community.
My favorite place to study is...
My room in Myers Hall is the best place for me to study because I am easily distracted by others. I feel that studying in my room allows me to accomplish the most because I can buckle down on my school work.
What is student life like at UGA?
The student life at the University of Georgia is wonderful. Prospective students will be hard-pressed to find another institution with the cultural dynamics that UGA possesses. With activities such as Dawgs after Dark, sporting events, and mentally stimulating campus-wide forums, there is never a dull day at UGA. Student life is also enhanced by the fact that the student body supports each other. Fellow students have helped me ease the stress of being a science major. Although fellow students and I have our fair share of fun outside of the classroom, we are able to remain focused on our education.
My favorite Professor is...
Dr. Deloris Hesse. In my four years at the University of Georgia, I have taken her Comparative Anatomy and Neurobiology classes. Dr. Hesse in these classes exuded a passion for teaching. She always sought to engage her students in lectures so that we could think critically about the material. Dr. Hesse also incorporated case studies in her classes a way to prepare her students for medical school. Her passion for teaching has reaffirmed my desire to become a physician.
After graduation I plan on ..
I will be attending the medical school at the Medical College of Georgia to specialize in Sports Medicine, Neurology, or Immunology.
What I like best about UGA is....
The diversity of study abroad opportunities. Being that the University of Georgia is a major institution, it possesses several connections with campuses and organizations outside of the United States. Students can chose anything from mission work in Africa to wine tasting in Italy. UGA also provides its students with the opportunity to make these international excursions at an affordable cost because the HOPE scholarship waves tuition for many of these trips.
The UGA experience I will always remember is...
My study abroad trip to Bosnia and the Netherlands. This was one of the most humbling experiences of my life. In Bosnia, my travel group and I interviewed several Muslim survivors of the genocide that occurred during in Sarajevo and Srebenicia. We were also able to hear from our Croatian tour guide about the widespread ramifications that the war had on the former Yugoslavia. In the Netherlands, we visited the tribunal courts at The Hague, and we were able to witness the prosecution of a Serbian war criminal. As a result of this trip, I became more appreciative of my life and the opportunities that have been given to me.
