Academic Life

Variety Opens the Door to Discovery

Whether you have a specific major in mind or you just want to explore the current UGA Bulletin and the academic world at UGA, you have a lot of options from which to choose. With over 170 fields of study and majors as diverse as banking & finance, wildlife, biological engineering and broadcast news, the opportunities to find your niche seem endless.

Diverse ClassUGA Sources of Excellence and Support

UGA has a wide range of additional programs and services, including the Honors Program, the Office of International Education, the International Student Life Office, LEADS (a student leadership program), the Office of Academic Enhancement, the Career Services Center and a diverse internship program.

You also have a chance to interact more closely with the faculty by taking part in programs such as First-Year Seminars, which are limited to 15 students and focus on student/professor interaction. First-year students can also participate in the Freshman College Summer Experience, a summer program allowing entering first-year students the chance to experience college life and student interaction a little earlier in their collegiate career.  You can also choose the First-year Learning Communities, a new residential program where students with similar interests take classes together.

Students experience a wide variety of situations within the classroom, ranging from small discussion classes to larger lecture hall courses. (The average first and second year class size is 39; the average third and fourth year class size is 33; and an average honors course size is 17.) Once on campus, you will see that your life revolves around your interaction with your professors and fellow students, so we suggest you review our profile of entering first-year and transfer students to get an idea of the challenging environment at UGA.
