Admission Information for Joint and Advanced Enrollment Applicants

For a small number of highly qualified applicants, the opportunity to be a Joint Enrollment or Advanced Enrollment student is a viable option. Prospective students living in the greater Athens area have the opportunity to take classes part-time at UGA while still enrolled in high school. In addition, a very limited number of students who have exhausted all the academic opportunities at their high school at the end of their junior year may be invited to begin their education at UGA a year early.

In both cases, we expect these students to be both academically and socially prepared for a UGA education, as these students will be treated as regular college students. The University suggests that any student considering one of these options speak with their high school guidance counselor well in advance of our application deadlines. Joint Enrollment Applicants
A joint enrollment applicant is a local high school student who wishes to enroll part-time in university-level courses at the University of Georgia prior to high school graduation while simultaneously completing required coursework at his or her home high school. Once the Office of Undergraduate Admissions determines that minimum eligibility requirements have been met, joint enrollment applicants are required to complete a successful interview with a member of the senior admissions counseling staff.

Joint enrollment applicants must meet or exceed the average academic GPA and SAT or ACT scores for the previous year’s entering first-year class. The average for the Fall 2006 first-year class was a 3.7 GPA, and a 1230 SAT(excluding writing score) or a 27 ACT.

Letters of support from a parent/guardian and school official are required, as well as a brief, written personal statement of intention and a required meeting with a member of the senior admissions counseling staff.

The postmark deadline for joint enrollment applications is April 15 for the summer or fall semester, although we can accept test scores after this date. The spring semester deadline is September 1.

Advanced Enrollment Applicants
An advanced enrollment applicant is a high school student who wishes to enroll as a full-time student at the University of Georgia prior to high school graduation. Once the Office of Undergraduate Admissions determines that minimum eligibility requirements have been met, advanced enrollment applicants are required to complete a successful interview with a member of the senior admissions counseling staff.

Advanced enrollment applicants must have an academic GPA and SAT or ACT score that exceed the average for the previous year’s first-year class. The GPA must be at least 0.25 higher (3.99), and the SAT score 50 points higher (1291) or ACT score two points higher (29).

Letters of support from a parent/guardian and school official and a brief, written personal statement of intention are required, as well as a successful interview with a member of the senior admissions counseling staff. A parent or guardian must accompany the advanced enrollment applicant to campus for this final interview.

The postmark deadline is the same as for entering first-year Regular Decision applicants, which is February 1 for summer or fall semesters and September 15 for spring semester.
